Georgia requires every nurse aide candidate to complete a state-approved training program and then pass a two-part competency evaluation: a written (or oral) exam and a hands-on skills exam. Facilities are also required to run background checks before hiring. Once you pass both parts, your name is added to the Georgia Nurse Aide Registry.
You get up to three attempts to pass both the written/oral and skills exams within one year of finishing your training program. If you haven't passed after the third attempt — or if a full year passes without testing — Georgia requires you to retake the entire training program before testing again.
Georgia certifications are valid for two years. To renew, you'll need to show that you provided at least 8 hours of paid, nursing-related services under the supervision of a nurse at some point during that two-year period, then submit a renewal application.
